Francesco “Frank” Corral joined the FBI as a special agent in 2007 and was assigned to the San Francisco Field Office, where he investigated counterterrorism and national security cyber matters. The relevant cyber cases were on Operation Aurora in 2010, the Iranian Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks on the U.S. Financial institutions in 2013, Tarh Andishan activity on the oil and gas sector in 2014, and Havex activity on the energy grid in 2015. In 2015, Mr. Corral was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent and worked in the Eurasia Cyber Operations Unit in Cyber Division. SSA Corral program managed the indictment of the first FSB Center 18 Intelligence Officer for the cyber intrusion on Yahoo in 2016. SSA Corral worked under Special Counsel’s Office from 2018 through 2019 and was the lead case agent for the Russian Election Interference on the 2016 elections. SSA Corral and the team of analysts, agents, and attorneys indicted the Internet Research Agency and the GRU for matters related to the 2016 election.

Mr. Corral served as a temporary Cyber Assistant Legal Attache’ in Paris handling national and criminal matters for the FBI and France counterparts. Mr. Corral was promoted to Unit Chief at the National Cyber Joint Task Force (NCIJTF) handling data exploitation matters in a joint effort with members of the United States Intelligence Community. In 2023, Mr. Corral served as a FBI liaison to the Department of Energy handling the program management aspects for the Counterintelligence Agents in the Laboratories (AIL) program. Recently, Mr. Corral completed an overseas assignment in Vanuatu in which he provided mentoring and training on cyber, data science, and artificial intelligence.

Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. Corral worked in the semiconductor and chemical industry as a chemical engineer. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Southern California and a Master of Science degree in chemical engineering from the San Jose State University.

A sort of “point us in the right direction so we can prioritize our asset protection resources” talk. Topics that come to mind include: transnational organized crime, money laundering, loan sharking, cyber threats, human and drug trafficking (to name a few). How can the FBI help us to keep the water clean? How can we help the FBI?
